This policy covers the Android app Gujarati GK Quiz - PrepWiser (package in.prepwiser.gk, shown on your phone as "PrepWiser GK"). The app is made by PrepWiser, Gujarat, India. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean PrepWiser.
The short version
- There is no login and no account. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number or location.
- Your progress stays on your phone. We cannot see it.
- The app shows ads through Google AdMob, and uses Google's Firebase to count usage and find crashes. These Google services receive some technical data from your phone, described below.
- If you report a mistake in a question, we receive only what is listed in section 2.3.
1. Data that stays on your phone
The app saves these on your phone only:
- your answers, scores and progress in each topic
- your streak and the stamps you have collected
- questions and facts you save
- your settings: theme, text size, reminder on or off and its time, answer sound, vibration
- mistake reports waiting to be sent while you are offline
None of this is sent to us or to anyone else. The app itself has no cloud backup or sync of this data. Android's own backup is left on for the app, so if you have turned on Google backup on your phone, Android may include this data in your private Google backup, and restore it if you reinstall the app on a phone signed in to the same Google account. We cannot see that backup.
Daily reminders are scheduled on your phone. No reminder data is sent to a server.
2. Data the app sends, and who receives it
2.1 Ads: Google AdMob
The app shows banner ads, a full-screen ad after some quizzes, and an optional short video ad if you choose to unlock a 50:50 hint. These ads are provided by Google AdMob.
To show ads, measure them and prevent ad fraud, the Google Mobile Ads SDK in the app collects and sends to Google:
- your device's IP address, which Google may use to estimate your general location (such as city or country)
- the Android advertising ID, the app set ID and, where applicable, similar device identifiers
- how you interact with ads and the app, such as app opens, ad views and taps
- diagnostic information about how the app and the ad SDK perform
The app asks for non-personalised ads only. Google does not use your interests or past activity to choose the ads shown in this app; ads may still be chosen from the app's content and your general location. The advertising ID may still be used for frequency capping, ad measurement and fraud prevention. The app also limits ads to content rated suitable for teens. Where the law requires it (for example for users in the European Economic Area or the UK), the app asks for your consent first through Google's consent message.
Google's use of this data is described in Google's privacy policy and in "How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services".
2.2 Usage and crash data: Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (Google)
We use Firebase Analytics to understand how many people use the app and which parts they use, and Firebase Crashlytics to find and fix crashes.
- Firebase Analytics collects usage events (for example app opens, screens viewed and sessions), a random app-instance ID and a coarse location (such as city or country) derived from a shortened IP address. The app turns off Firebase's collection of the advertising ID and does not allow Firebase data to be used for ad personalisation.
- Firebase Crashlytics collects crash reports: what the app was doing when it crashed, the app version, basic device details (such as phone model and Android version) and a random installation ID.
This data is not linked to your name, email address or phone number, because the app never has them. We see it only as totals and crash reports in the Firebase console. Google processes it for us as a service provider under the Firebase terms.
2.3 Mistake reports (only when you send one)
If you tap "report a mistake" on a question and send it, the app sends us:
- the question's id number
- the reason you chose from the list
- the note you typed, if you typed one
- the app version
It does not include your name, email, phone number, device ID or location. Please do not type personal details in the note.
Reports are sent over an encrypted connection to a Google Apps Script web app that adds them as a row to a Google Sheet in PrepWiser's Google account. Only the people who check and fix the app's content can see this sheet. If you are offline, the report waits on your phone and is sent the next time you are online.
2.4 Downloading new quizzes and current affairs
When you are online, the app downloads new daily quizzes, current affairs and content updates from our content server, hosted by Cloudflare. Like any website or download, the server receives standard request information, such as your IP address and the file requested, in order to deliver the file. We do not use this to identify you, and we do not combine it with any other data.
2.5 Sharing your score card
The score card image is made on your phone. When you share it, Android's share menu sends it to the app you choose, such as WhatsApp. We do not receive it.
3. What we do not collect
- No name, email address, phone number or account.
- No precise location. The app does not ask for location permission.
- No contacts, photos, files, microphone or camera.
- No payment data. There are no purchases in the app.
4. Why the data is used
| Data | Used for |
|---|---|
| Data on your phone | Running the app: your progress, streak, stamps, saved items and settings |
| AdMob data | Showing ads, measuring them, preventing ad fraud. Ads are how the app is paid for. |
| Firebase Analytics | Counting how many people use the app and which parts are used, so we know what to improve |
| Firebase Crashlytics | Finding and fixing crashes |
| Mistake reports | Correcting questions and facts |
We do not sell your data. We do not use mistake reports for marketing.
5. How long data is kept
- On your phone: until you erase your progress in Settings, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the app.
- Mistake reports: kept until the question has been reviewed, and deleted from the sheet within 12 months of being received.
- Firebase Analytics: event data is kept for 2 months, then deleted by Google.
- Firebase Crashlytics: crash reports are kept for 90 days.
- AdMob: kept by Google under Google's own retention policies.
6. Your choices
- Ads: you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings (on most phones: Settings > Privacy > Ads, or Settings > Google > Ads). After that, ads are no longer tied to the old ID. Where the consent message applies, you can change your choice from the app's Settings (the "જાહેરાત માટેની પસંદગીઓ" item, shown where the consent message applies).
- Notifications: the daily reminder is off unless you turn it on. You can turn it off in the app's Settings or in Android's notification settings.
- Mistake reports: sending one is always your choice.
7. Deleting your data
- Progress, streak, stamps, saved items and settings: use "Erase progress" in the app's Settings, clear the app's storage in Android settings, or uninstall the app. Uninstalling removes all of it from your phone. Because we never receive this data, there is no copy with us to delete.
- Mistake reports: email us at privacy@prepwiser.in and ask for your report to be deleted. Because reports carry no name or device ID, please tell us roughly when you sent it, which question it was about, and what your note said, so we can find it. We will delete it and reply to confirm.
- Ads and analytics data: this data is not linked to you by name, so we cannot look it up for you. You can reset or delete your advertising ID (section 6), and the analytics data is deleted automatically after the retention period in section 5.
8. Children
The app is meant for people aged 13 and over. It is not designed for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. The app does not ask anyone for personal details. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal details in a mistake report note, email us and we will delete it.
9. Security
All data the app sends (to AdMob, Firebase, our content server and the mistake report sheet) travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS or TLS). Access to the report sheet and the Firebase console is limited to the PrepWiser team.
10. Not a government app
Gujarati GK Quiz is an independent app by PrepWiser. It is not affiliated with GPSC, GSSSB, the Government of Gujarat or any government body.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change what the app collects or how data is used, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date at the top. For important changes, we will also say so in the app's release notes.
